Italy’s first reinforced wooden door for ClimateHouses

KlimaHausRubner Doors have been the first to succeed again: They have been able to endow their well-known ClimateHouse door with burglar resistance devices of resistance class 3 (WK3). Thus Rubner Doors are clearly superior to even good metal-reinforced doors.

PanzertürIn the last few years a steady rise in property offence has been registered and according to police statements this development will not change in the near future. In particular, the high rate of home burglaries has caused a strong feeling of uncertainty among owners of apartments and detached houses. According to crime statistics, in Germany some 50% of all burglars go right through the home or front door, thus damaging especially the door leaf, strike plate and lock, and the glazing of glazed doors. The tools used by the intruders are usually simple lever tools such as wedges, screw drivers, pry bars and hammers. Statistics also show that 80% of the burglaries that could be avoided have been impeded by mechanical locking devices whereas only 20% can be attributed to burglar alarm systems. This clearly shows that mechanical devices are an efficient method to gain a very high safety standard.

Rubner Doors have always been the leading experts in terms of safety and burglar resistance. They have been committed to linking the advantages of the renewable raw material wood, its warmth and comfort, its environmental friendliness and sustainability to various safety functions. The versatility of wood is definitely second to none! Who has been of the opinion so far that wooden doors are inferior in terms of protection against burglary will now be disabused: doors which have been classified as resistance-class-2–doors from leading test laboratories already have a high degree of safety.

Rubner A Rubner front door is subject to tough tests before being built into our customer’s house, where it is supposed to make a good job for decades. In the laboratories of the Prüfinstitut für Bauelemente (PfB Rosenheim; Testing laboratories for building components in Rosenheim, Germany) the following functions are tested among others:

  • Strength according to DIN EN 1192
  • Operating forces according to EN 12217-2
  • General and local flatness – tolerance according to DIN EN 1530
  • Mechanical durability according to EN 12400
  • Climate protection according to DIN EN 1121
  • Noise protection according to DIN EN 4109
  • Thermal protection according to DIN EN ISO 10077-1
  • Tightness (air tightness and driving rain permeability)

A front door subject to a professional burglar test is not spared anything.Once the corresponding tests have been carried out the door still has to resist various burglary attempts. ‘Officially appointed’ burglars are unleashed on the doors, determined to play on any flaw of the door leaf or the frame in order to succeed. However, they did not succeed with Rubner front doors which, endowed with corresponding safety devices, have thereupon been classified as resistance class 3. Only few have succeeded in passing this demanding and cost-intensive test for wooden front doors so far.

But there is more: also on the building site and when built in the front door must live up to its promise. The so-called “Blower Door Test” is a tool designed to measure the airtightness of buildings and to locate air leakage sites. Creating a small pressure difference between inside and outside the Blower Door Test unmasks every flaw or leakage in the building enclosure. Quite commonly, the front door is one of these weak spots.

So when choosing your front door, make sure it comes with the corresponding test certificates of laboratory and built-in tests!

Rubner ClimateFrontdoors - second to none also in the summer

What keeps off cold keeps off heat, too. This is also true for Italy’s first certified ClimateFrontdoor by Rubner. Excellent thermal insulating features provide for pleasantly cool indoor temperatures also in summer.

Also this year summer temperatures and lots of sunshine make for intense heating up during the day. Having enjoyed the day outdoors sunbathing or on an excursion, nothing compares to coming back to the cool shadow of one’s home. Good thermal insulation is vital in order to prevent the heat from entering the house during the night and also after several days. In sun-blessed regions like the South Tyrol and all the Mediterranean countries this is another advantage of wooden entrance doors. Wood is a natural material which provides for cosy warmth in winter without warming up too much in summer – something one can not always say about some metal front doors.

Wooden entrance doors are in no way inferior to those made of metal also in terms of safety: endowed with robust and tested multipoint locks, protection devices against forced entry by prising on the hinge side and security fittings provide for too hard a nut to be cracked by intruders!

Summer: heat and - peak season for burglars.
ClimateFrontdoors protect from both of them.
